Zlata Razdolina - Composer - Lyrics: Anna Akhmatova

As if with a straw you drink my soul.
I know, its a heady and bitter taste.
But I wont infringe on the torture with pleas,
Oh, I've been at peace for weeks and weeks.

Let me know when you're done. Its not sad
That my soul is no longer of this world.
Ill just walk down that nearby road
To see how the children play.

The gooseberry bushes are blooming,
And theyre hauling bricks beyond the fence.
Who are you: my brother or lover,
I dont remember, and I dont need to remember.

As if with a straw you drink my soul.
I know, its a heady and bitter taste.
But I wont infringe on the torture with pleas,
Oh, I've been at peace for weeks and weeks.

How bright it is here and how unsheltered,
My body, exhausted, rests
And passers-by are thinking vaguely:
Wasnt she widowed just yesterday?

The gooseberry bushes are blooming,
And theyre hauling bricks beyond the fence.
Who are you: my brother or lover,
I dont remember, and I dont need to remember.

Zlata Razdolina - Composer - Lyrics: Anna Akhmatova

Among the festive frosty Moscow
Where runs our parting
And where, perhaps, will read you
Farewell song first edition

To your faith! And to my faithfulness!
Because we're together in this land!
Let us remain bewitched forever,
For never was a winter in the world more beautiful,
And never in the sky were more delicate crosses,
Longer bridges, more airy chains...

Because everything is floating, silently gliding.
Because it's impossible to see one another again.
Because I'm dreaming about it
Even though the door is nailed shut.

1961-63

Zlata Razdolina - composer - Konstantin Balmont

I caught the fleeting shadows with my dreams,
the fleeting shadows of a dimming day.
I ascended the tower, and the steps shook,
the steps shook under my feet.

The higher I went, the clearer they became visible,
the clearer they became visible, the features ahead.
And some kind of sounds were heard far away,
all around me they were heard from the Heavens and the Earth.

The higher I went, the brighter they shone,
the brighter the sleeping mountains shone.
And their farewell glow seemed to be tenderly caressing,
tenderly caressing my unclear gaze.

And, far below me, night had already come,
Night had already come for the sleeping Earth.
But for me the sun kept shining,
The fiery sun was setting far away.

I learned, how to catch the fleeting shadows,
The fleeting shadows of a day that dimmed,
And I rose higher and higher,
And the steps shook under my feet.
